All of the journofluencers are in agreement that Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City is likely to be completed by the end of the day, but Chelsea are still playing hardball over the fee. If there’s one big transfer saga likely to go down to the wire, it’s this one.

Chelsea are in negotiations for a pair of midfielders, though no one seems to know which one is more likely to sign. Manu Kone from Roma is the more experienced, safer potential signing, while Lamine Camara from Monaco is the higher ceiling athlete, but less reliable player in possession. The player traders inside Chelsea would definitely prefer Camara, but coaches generally don’t think in player trading terms.

There’s not enough time to get it done today, but apparently Arsenal aren’t giving up on Julian Alvarez. Atléti seem quite committed to not sell to Barcelona out of spite, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see this happen in January.

Arsenal have sold Gabriel Jesus to Barcelona, which feels like an admission from the Blaugrana that Alvarez isn’t happening.

Sunderland might be the most active team in the Premier League today. They’ve already signed Kevin Danso from Spurs, and they’re very much in the market for an additional winger as well. One is Dodi Lukebakio, though that feels like a backup if they lose the battle for…

Malick Fofana. The young Belgian from Lyon has several suitors, including the Black Cats and Crystal Palace. He missed a lot of last season with an ankle injury, but made a handful of sub appearances at the end of the year, and has been good enough in his two appearances for Lyon this year to convince buyers that he’s all the way back. I thought Fofana was excellent two seasons ago and he might be a serious bargain at a rumoured £25m if his ankle injury is fully behind him.

A lot still seems up in the air for Spurs, who are still trying to ship out some unwanted players and fill holes. Pape Sarr is off to Juventus, while the duo of Tosin and Ukraine Bolt have arrived from Chelsea. I do not like either of those pickups for Tottenham at all, and I’m very much hoping for another signing that is not bad.

It’s also a very active deadline for Everton, who are engaging in some more swap deals. They’ve brought back Jack Grealish, while selling Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City. Folarin Balogun is also arriving from Monaco, following Beto’s departure to Fiorentina. The money in and out from those four deals combined is going to end up being roughly the same, and I think the Toffees came out improved as a team overall.

Aston Villa are wrapping up one of the most dramatic transfer windows in recent memory with a couple of big signings. I like Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who was one of Southampton’s few bright spots during their Premier League campaign two years ago, and scored 7 goals from set pieces in the Championship last year. I am less certain, but intrigued by a nearly £50m fee for Ibrahim Mbaye, an 18-year-old attacker with very few minutes under his belt. There’s no doubt he’s a huge talent, but it’s a massive risk for a guy who’s only done some stats farming off the bench vs. inferior opponents for PSG.

Fulham are all out of ideas, so they’re just letting their coach sign his ex-players from the Spanish 3rd division. They’ve also paid too much for Hugo Larsson, a pure defensive midfielder with very bad passing and carrying numbers. I am worried about Fulham.

I’m very surprised that Newcastle have given up on Nick Woltemade so quickly. I’m also surprised Juventus are so desperate that they’d pay a £3.5m loan fee for a player with no option to buy. Weird one all around.

Chelsea have agreed to sign 18-year-old defender Honest Ahanor next summer. But for now, Atalanta are loaning him to Crystal Palace, so we’ll get to see what he can do in the Prem before he signs for the Blues.
